How to preview a snippet
- Enter a title, description, site name, and URL, or fetch a public page to fill those fields.
- Switch desktop or mobile.
- Read the toolbar widths and the mock result. A blank title shows “Missing title tag”. A blank description shows “No meta description candidate”.
Reading your results
The disclaimer reads: “Preview uses measured Arial glyph widths as a UI heuristic. Google may rewrite the title link…”
The toolbar shows the character count and measured width against the limit, for example Title 52 chars · 498/580px, and the same for Description. Desktop limits are 580px for the title and 920px for the description. Mobile limits are 560px and 680px. Fetch URL fills title, description, and site from og:site_name or the hostname.
Google’s title link and snippet documents explain that the live result can use different text.
A width estimate, not the live result
Pixel caps in other preview tools disagree, and Google does not publish these four numbers. Treat 580 / 920 and 560 / 680 as SolViewer’s Arial truncation heuristic. A fetch does not show what Google currently displays for a query.

Will Google keep the title I typed?
Not necessarily. Google may rewrite the title link. This mock cannot promise the live wording.
How long should a meta title be?
There is no official character statute. Watch the pixel toolbar. Desktop truncates the mock near 580px; mobile near 560px. Put the distinctive meaning first.
Is the 580px limit exact?
No. It is this UI’s desktop title cap. Google truncates by device and result layout, and may ignore both the title and the description you previewed.
